Gym Mojjo Hua Hin: A Simple Local Gym That Gets the Job Done

Fitness Hua Hin is a simple, budget-friendly local gym with old-school equipment, friendly people and everything you need to get a workout done.

Gym Mojjo Hua Hin, Thailand Gym Review

Gym Mojjo Hua Hin is about as no-frills as it gets.

It’s a simple, open-air local gym on Soi 94 with older equipment, fans instead of air-con and absolutely nothing fancy about it.

But everything worked, the people were friendly and at 120 THB for a day pass, it was pretty good value.

First Impressions

Gym Mojjo has a very local, community-gym feel.

It’s undercover but open-air, with fans doing their best to keep the place cool.

The staff were welcoming, the other gym-goers were friendly and everything was clean and tidy. There was cleaning spray and wipes available, and of course the resident cat seemed to be keeping a close eye on operations.

The equipment is older and clearly well used, but everything seemed to be maintained and working.

For 120 THB, I wasn’t expecting fancy.

And fancy it definitely isn’t.

The Space & Equipment

The gym is fairly small but laid out well, with enough room to move between equipment without feeling cramped.

There are two free-weight areas — one undercover with fans and another section out the back.

We trained in the middle of the day and it was definitely warm. But because the gym is open and there are fans moving the air around, it was manageable.

Still, this is probably one of those gyms where I’d choose my training time wisely.

The equipment is very old-school, including some early Life Fitness-style machines that looked like they had probably seen a few decades of workouts.

Some of the movements felt a little clunky and the biomechanics certainly weren’t perfect, but everything I used worked.

There are enough machines for all the major muscle groups, plus cables, a squat rack, benches, dumbbells up to 37.5 kg and the basics you need for a decent strength session.

There are also treadmills, an elliptical, bike and stepper if cardio is your thing.

Bathrooms and lockers are available, along with a drinks fridge.

Basically, you’ve got everything you need.

Just don’t expect anything shiny and new.

What It Felt Like to Train Here

I trained back and managed to put together a pretty solid session.

My calluses definitely noticed the older textured bars!

A few of the machines took some adjusting to get the movement feeling right, but that’s part of training in these older local gyms. You work with what’s there, change an exercise if something doesn’t feel right and get on with your workout.

Hubby trained back and biceps and had no trouble getting his session done either.

And that’s probably the best way to describe Gym Mojjo. It gets the job done.

Pricing

A day pass was 120 THB when we visited, which I thought was fair.

You’re not paying for air-conditioning, premium equipment or fancy facilities.

You’re paying for somewhere to train.

And that’s exactly what you get.

Pros

  • Cheap 120 THB day pass
  • Friendly local atmosphere
  • Enough equipment for a full workout
  • Clean and tidy
  • Free weights and machines
  • Lockers and bathrooms

Cons

  • No air-conditioning
  • Older equipment
  • Some machines feel a little clunky
  • Dumbbells only go up to 37.5 kg
  • Limited equipment compared with larger commercial gyms

Scorecard

Just for the record, 5 stars do not come easy.

My Final Thoughts

Gym Mojjo isn’t going to blow you away.

But I don’t think it’s trying to.

It’s a simple local gym with older equipment, friendly people and enough of the basics to get a decent workout done.

At 120 THB for a day pass, that’s pretty much all I need it to be.

We trained at four different gyms during our time in Hua Hin and Gym Mojjo ranked third for me. There were gyms I preferred, but if I was staying nearby and wanted an inexpensive place to train, I’d happily come back.
