Hua Hin, Thailand Gym Review
The Tank Gym Hua Hin is raw, old school and definitely not built for comfort.
It’s an open-air, warehouse-style gym with heavy metal weights, plenty of space to train and a strong community feel. There’s no air-conditioning, some of the equipment has definitely seen better days, and you’re going to sweat.
But strangely enough, that was all part of the experience.

First Impressions
The Tank Gym immediately feels raw and old school.
There’s no air-conditioning, no frills and no pretending to be something it’s not. This is a gym built for training, not comfort.
At just 80 THB for a day pass when we visited, it was great value. There’s a drinks fridge, protein smoothie bar and even a coffee bar, which adds to the relaxed, community-driven feel.
The gym relies heavily on airflow rather than cooling. There are wall fans, although they weren’t working when we visited, and one large commercial fan pushing warm air around the gym.
Even with the fan running, you’ll be sweating within minutes of starting your workout.

The Space
The gym is split across two levels.
Downstairs is the main training area, while upstairs has space for stretching and spin bikes.
It’s a tall warehouse with plenty of open floor space, which works really well for free-weight training and old-school lifting. The sound of metal plates clinking around the gym just adds to the hardcore atmosphere.
The equipment itself is a mix of old and new. There are plenty of traditional strength-training options, including squat and Smith machines, racks, cable trainers, dumbbells up to 50 kg and a range of upper and lower-body machines.
There’s also cardio equipment including treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes.
But some of the equipment is showing its age.
A few handles and attachments were missing, some pins were absent and certain machines weren’t secured to the floor. Some machines were solid and completely usable, while others felt clunky or incomplete.
This is definitely a gym better suited to lifters who are comfortable training more traditionally with barbells and dumbbells rather than relying heavily on machines.
Facilities are basic but functional. There are toilets, the gym was clean and cleaning equipment was provided.
What It Felt Like to Train Here
It was leg day for me again — why does leg day come around so quickly?
I started on the leg press. Despite its age, it was effective, and the hack squat performed similarly. Romanian deadlifts in the squat rack worked well.
The leg curl and leg extension machines were a little awkward, with uncomfortable angles, while the abduction machine was disappointing, with uneven tension and limited range of motion.
We trained just before midday and within minutes it became a hot, sweaty mess.
We finished our workout as the commercial fan was switched off at 1pm, and the temperature rose quickly once the airflow stopped.
Hubby trained chest and triceps old-school style using the heavy metal dumbbells. He found some of the chest and tricep machines clunky, with jerky cables, but still managed a solid workout.

My Final Thoughts
Strangely enough, out of the four gyms we visited in Hua Hin, The Tank Gym ranked second for me.
Yes, it’s sweaty. Yes, some machines are old and imperfect.
But I loved the vibe.
This is a place where you train old school, rely less on machines and focus more on free weights and effort. The open space works, the community feel is strong and the 80 THB day pass made it an affordable option when we visited.
It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you enjoy old-school lifting, open space and a strong gym community vibe, The Tank Gym delivers solid value.
During our visit, I trained at four local gyms, all very different in vibe, location, pricing, air-conditioning and equipment. These reviews are designed to give you an honest picture of what’s available so you can choose the gym that best suits your training style.
