Osaka, Japan Gym Review
Finding a good gym while travelling in Japan isn’t always straightforward, especially if you have tattoos.
Torque Gym Osaka was a great find.
Tucked away on the sixth floor of a building in bustling Namba, this two-level gym combines premium equipment, spotless facilities and a professional training environment with something particularly useful for international visitors – it’s tattoo-friendly.
For me, it had everything I needed for a solid workout before heading out to explore Osaka.

First Impressions
Walking into Torque Gym, I was immediately struck by how professional everything felt.
The gym is spread across two floors, with different areas for different styles of training. Everything was well organised, spotless and clearly maintained to a high standard.
And the equipment immediately got my attention.
This wasn’t a gym packed with random machines just for the sake of having more equipment. It felt like they had invested in quality.

The Space
The two-level layout works really well.
There’s a separate aerobic floor, functional training area, free weights, cardio equipment and space for stretching. Splitting the gym across different areas helps prevent everything from feeling crowded and gives you space to actually focus on your workout.
The changing facilities were also impressive.
The women’s facilities included amenities such as makeup remover and hair irons, while shampoo, conditioner and body wash made getting ready after training really easy.
Everything was spotless.
Equipment
Torque Gym has an impressive range of premium equipment, including Hammer Strength, Freemotion, Cybex and TuffStuff.
There are dumbbells ranging from 1 kg right up to 100 kg, multiple power racks and Smith machines, plenty of cable attachments and a good selection of plate-loaded leg and glute equipment.
Cardio has its own separate area, and there’s also a stretching space with foam rollers.
During my workout, I found everything I needed without having to compromise or change my session around what was available.
The Cybex machines were particularly impressive.
What It Felt Like to Train Here
Torque has a focused, professional training atmosphere.
Weightlifting videos were playing around the gym, everyone seemed there to train, and despite the quality of the facilities, it didn’t feel intimidating or overly serious.
I loved being able to walk in while travelling and still put together exactly the workout I wanted.
The staff spoke English and were really helpful with the check-in process. They patiently explained the gym rules and facilities, which made everything much easier as an international visitor.
And then there’s one particularly important difference for some travellers.
Torque Gym is tattoo-friendly.
That made it stand out from many gyms in Japan where visible tattoos can be restricted.
Important: Bring Indoor Training Shoes
This is something you definitely need to know before visiting.
Torque Gym has a strict indoor shoe policy.
You need a separate pair of clean shoes for training that haven’t been worn outside. When you arrive, check in at reception in your regular shoes or sandals. Staff will inspect your training shoes before you change into them inside the gym.
You’ll also need to remove your shoes before entering the changing room and bathroom areas.
If you forget to bring indoor shoes, rental options are available at reception.
If you’re travelling light, make sure your training shoes are thoroughly clean and don’t wear them outside before your gym session.
Pricing
When I visited, the available visitor passes were:
Day pass: ¥2,970
5-use pass: ¥13,200
2-week pass: ¥9,900
If you’re visiting now, check the current prices and staffed reception hours before heading to the gym.
Day-pass visitors need to arrive during staffed hours.

My Final Thoughts
Torque Gym had everything I needed for my workout.
The equipment was excellent, the changing rooms were spotless and having shampoo, conditioner and body wash available made the post-workout routine really convenient.
Finding a gym with this level of equipment and facilities while travelling was refreshing, and I left pumped and ready to start exploring Osaka.
First stop… Gyukatsu Tomita, a Japanese steakhouse just around the corner.
Those food gains weren’t going to take care of themselves.
Would I recommend Torque Gym?
Absolutely.
Whether you’re in Osaka for a few days or a couple of weeks, Torque Gym was worth every yen for me.
Just remember the two essentials: clean indoor training shoes and a towel.
