Fitster Club Ubon, Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand

Fitster Club Ubon is a modern gym in Ubon Ratchathani with good equipment, plenty of space and, importantly in Thailand, air-conditioning.

From the moment we walked in, it felt clean, organised and well maintained.

The staff spoke very little English but were friendly and welcoming, and everything was laid out neatly by muscle group, making it easy to find what we needed and get straight into our workout.

They also offer Pilates reformer and group classes, and there’s a good cardio section if that’s your thing.

The Space & Equipment

Fitster has a good mix of pin-loaded and plate-loaded machines, along with free weights, cables, cardio and a functional training area.

Most of the equipment was in excellent condition and some of it looked almost brand new.

But new doesn’t always mean better.

Some of the pin-loaded machines looked impressive but I struggled to get a really good muscle connection on them. The movement just didn’t feel as smooth or natural as I’d hoped.

The plate-loaded equipment was a different story.

This felt much better to train on — smooth, modern and much more natural through the movement.

There were two different leg presses, squat rack, hip thrust, leg extension and curl, calf raise, plenty of chest and back options and, of course, abductor and adductor machines (actually, there were two of each). 🤣 Because apparently one abductor machine is never enough in a Thai gym.

The dumbbells are in pounds and go up to 100 lbs, although once they get heavier they jump in 10 lb increments. Good luck finding that perfect in-between weight as you work your way up!

One thing I did notice was that there weren’t a huge number of weight plates.

It wasn’t an issue while we were there because the gym was quiet, but I could see it becoming annoying if several people were using the plate-loaded machines at the same time.

What It Felt Like to Train Here

We trained around lunchtime during the week and had most of the gym to ourselves.

I really liked the leg press and the functional area. There was plenty of room and the equipment was in great condition.

The hip thrust machine, however, was not my friend. No matter what I did, I just couldn’t get the activation I wanted from it.

The pin-loaded machines were also a little hit-and-miss for me, but there were enough other options that it didn’t really matter.

Pricing

A day pass was 189 THB when we visited.

It’s a little more expensive than some of the other local gyms in Ubon, but you’re getting a clean, modern and fully air-conditioned gym with good facilities.

For me, the price was reasonable for what was on offer.

My Final Thoughts

Fitster Club is a good gym.

It’s modern, clean, air-conditioned and has more than enough equipment to put together a decent workout.

Not every machine worked for me, but that’s pretty normal. I liked the plate-loaded equipment much more than the pin-loaded machines and still had a good session.

Luke would actually rank Fitster as his favourite of the three gyms we tried in Ubon.

French Gym took that spot for me.

We also trained at Home Gym, check out all three reviews if you’re trying to decide where to train in Ubon and let me know which one you prefer.

And if you want to know what else we got up to during our week here, check out Ubon Ratchathani: Side Quest to Thailand’s Northeast for where we stayed, ate and explored.
