Home Gym – Ubon Ratchathani

Home Gym Ubon Ratchathani: Local, Friendly & Great Value

Home Gym Ubon Ratchathani is a friendly local gym with plenty of equipment and excellent value, with day passes starting from just 50 THB.

Home Gym, Ubon Ratchathani

Home Gym is tucked down a small alley in Ubon Ratchathani.

It can be a little tricky for your Grab driver to find, but once you enter the alley, you really can’t miss it.

The team were friendly, kind and spoke good English. They explained the different day-pass options and made us feel welcome from the start.

There are two workout areas — an undercover section for 50 THB or an air-conditioned indoor gym for 90 THB.

Obviously, we chose the air-conditioned option.

Although calling it air-conditioned might be slightly generous.

The Space & Equipment

Home Gym isn’t flashy or commercial.

It’s a genuine local gym with two separate training areas and plenty of equipment to get a proper workout done.

We paid the extra 40 THB for the indoor section. The AC and fans were working hard, but so was the Ubon midday heat.

It was definitely cooler than outside. Just not that much cooler.

The gym was clean and well maintained, with cleaning stations and simple bathroom facilities including a toilet and shower.

Equipment-wise, there was more here than I expected.

There were squat racks, a smith machine, leg press, hack squat, cables and plenty of machines for chest, back, arms and legs.

Dumbbells went up to 40 kg, and there were enough benches and free weights to give you plenty of options.

Most importantly, everything we used worked well.

The machines had a good range of movement and there was enough variety to change exercises and hit each muscle group from different angles.

What It Felt Like to Train Here

I trained chest, shoulders and triceps and had no trouble putting together my workout.

There were enough different machines and cable options that I could easily switch things around without having to compromise too much on what I’d normally do.

Hubby trained back and biceps and was equally happy with the equipment.

Yes, it was warm. But between the fans and AC, it was manageable.

The other members were friendly and respectful, the staff were welcoming and the gym had a relaxed local feel to it.

Nothing fancy.

Nothing particularly pretty.

But everything we needed was there.

Pricing

This is where Home Gym does really well.

When we visited, you could pay:

50 THB for the undercover section
90 THB for the air-conditioned section

For 90 THB, I thought it was excellent value. And for an extra 40 THB, I’m choosing the AC every time. Even if it is fighting a losing battle against the midday heat.

Pros

  • Excellent value
  • Friendly, welcoming staff
  • Good English spoken
  • Plenty of equipment
  • Dumbbells up to 40 kg
  • Good range of movement on the machines we used
  • Clean and well maintained

Cons

  • Can be a little tricky to find
  • Air-conditioning struggles with the midday heat
  • Basic facilities

My Final Thoughts

I liked Home Gym.

For 90 THB, we got a good workout, plenty of equipment and a really friendly welcome.

It doesn’t have the polished, modern feel of Fitster Club, but it also doesn’t have the price tag.

And sometimes I actually prefer these smaller local gyms anyway.

Everything worked, the machines felt good and there was enough variety that neither of us had to change our workouts much.

Would I train here again?

Yep.

During our week in Ubon, we also trained at Fitster Club and French Gym. Luke’s favourite was Fitster, mine was French Gym, but Home Gym was easily the best value of the three.

You can read all three reviews and make your own call on which one suits you best.

And if you’re heading to Ubon, check out Ubon Ratchathani: Side Quest to Thailand’s Northeast for everything else we got up to during our week there — where we stayed, ate and explored.
